Camp Gear Procedures and Return

If you were assigned and took home any troop gear from camp, please make sure to clean and dry it out as soon as possible. It is very important that the tents and dining flys be set up or hung up to dry as soon as you return home from camp. Storing them while wet will cause mildew to grow, and can ruin the fabric. Please make sure to clean off any mud from the tent/fly, poles, and stakes, as well as the storage bags; along with making sure the inside of the tent is cleaned out and free of trash, dirt, grass, etc.

For the cook kits, everything in it must be cleaned, even if it wasn’t used at camp. Most of the items can be placed in the dishwasher. The inside and outside of the cook kit should also be wiped down and cleaned. Please make sure that everything is dry before you repack it in the cook kit.

If you took home a dutch oven, please clean it with warm soapy water, and a soft sponge or rag. Do not use any abrasive sponges like SOS pads, or any spray cleaners. Please don’t put the dutch oven in the dishwasher. If there is food that is stuck on, please do not scrape it off with anything metal. The best approach is to fill it with water, and warm it up on the stove to help loosen any food particles. Don’t forget to clean the lid as well.

Remember, it is the scout’s responsibility to clean any troop gear items he brings home from camp. All troop gear needs to be returned at the beginning of the meeting on October 2nd. Thanks for your help!
