RISK! Camp (Mother & Son) – November 8-10

Get ready for some Empire building and takeover at Troop 701’s RISK! Camp, scheduled for the weekend of November 8-10 at Firelands Scout Reservation. This is also our Mother & Son camp for this scouting year. Please consider joining us for some fun strategy-based scoutcraft games! Sign-ups are available on TroopWebHost. Please note the following sign-up instructions for the weekend:

Moms are welcome to cabin-camp with us for the entire weekend. The heated cabins are located in a cluster, with one larger cabin with an indoor bathroom, and all cabins a short walk from the shower house. Each mom will have a bunk with a mattress, but should plan on bringing their own sheet/bedding/sleeping bag, etc. The cost for camping for moms for either or both nights will be $25 (same cost as for scouts).

If a mom wants to attend only during the day on Saturday, please plan to arrive around 9:00 AM and stay until after the scouts’ campfire program at 9:30 PM. The cost of day-tickets for moms is $10. Please indicate your choice (camping or just attending during the day) on your TroopWebHost sign-up.

Since Fall weather can be unpredictable, all participants (scouts and adults) are reminded to pack warm clothing for the weekend. The PLC has planned a lot of fun outdoor activities. Dressing in layers, a stocking cap, and boots will help keep you warm, along with packing several pairs of gloves and warm socks, so you can switch out of any that get wet.

Moms, get ready to join us in a low ropes course, a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity. This experience is being prepared specially for us by our own Mrs. Leslie Moder! Please make sure you have sturdy warm comfortable outdoor shoes, outerwear, and gloves that are substantial and warm but that can be used for activity… gloves you could shovel in (although we aren’t going to make you shovel!).

With so many of our moms attending Mother-Son camp, we will not have separate driver signups. If your scout will need a ride to and/or from camp (i.e. he isn’t riding with a Mom who is attending camp), please indicate that on his camp signup. If you have already arranged transportation with another family, please note that as well. We will still be meeting at Chapman on Friday night, and driving out to camp as a group. We just want to make sure that we have adequate seating space for everyone who is going.

Finally, remember that a scout does not need to have his Mom at camp in order to join us for the weekend. There are typically quite a few scouts who’s mom’s aren’t able to attend, so all scouts are definitely welcome at camp regardless if their mom is able to be there or not.

Thank you!

For 40 years, boys have joined Troop 701 of Strongsville, Ohio for one simple reason: "Because they wanted to." Together on the Scouting trail to Eagle they experience adventure, discovery and teamwork.
