10-mile Hike – Saturday, March 26th

On Saturday, March 26, 2022, starting at 9:00 AM, we will have our next Philmont training hike – a 10-mile trek. All Scouts in Troop 701 are welcome to participate in the hike, especially those working on the Hiking Merit Badge. However, please keep in mind that hikes of this length demand endurance and physical fitness. These hiking miles will also count towards Boot Club awards! The hike will depart and end at the Berea Falls Scenic Overlook parking lot, just north of the intersection of Barrett Rd. and Valley Parkway, Berea, Ohio (41.3781456,-81.8661277). Our trek will take us to the spectacular views at the top of Fort Hill (behind the Rocky River Nature Center). Here is a link to the map of our planned route:

Remember to carry a full daypack with two quarts of water, trail snacks, rain gear, and don’t forget to also wear a stocking cap and warm gloves. Please wear comfortable hiking footwear and hiking socks as well, as portions of the trails may be muddy. It is recommended that you bring a plastic bag to put your muddy boots in before you get in your car to go home.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We hope you will be able to join us!

For 40 years, boys have joined Troop 701 of Strongsville, Ohio for one simple reason: "Because they wanted to." Together on the Scouting trail to Eagle they experience adventure, discovery and teamwork.
