15-mile Hike – Sunday, October 21st

Lace up your hiking boots, and join us for a 15-mile hike through the Cleveland Metroparks. Our route will take us along the All-purpose and Bridle trails, beginning at The Chalet in Strongsville, and ending at the Brecksville Nature Center in Brecksville. All scouts and parents are welcome to participate, but those scouts needing a 15-mile hike as part of the Hiking merit badge are especially encouraged to attend. We don’t schedule hikes of this length that often, so please take advantage of this opportunity. Sign-ups are available on Troop Web Host.

We will be meeting at The Chalet in Strongsville, on Valley Parkway, at 8:00 a.m. Please be prompt! A 15-mile hike is an all day excursion, so please arrive having already eaten breakfast, and ready to hit the trail! You should be prepared to carry plenty of water, food, rain gear, spare socks, and other essentials. Pack at least two (preferably three) quarts of water, a full lunch, and nutritious, energizing snacks. Since this hike is mostly on paved surfaces, you may want to consider wearing a comfortable pair of shoes as opposed to hiking boots. However, there is a two-mile stretch of the hike that will be on the Bridle Trail, which could be muddy. Please check the weather, and let the forecast guide you in making the proper gear choices.

We are anticipating an arrival at the Brecksville Nature Center at 3:30 p.m., and will need drivers to meet us there, and transport us back to The Chalet in Strongsville. The Brecksville Nature Center is located at 9000 Chippewa Creek Drive, Brecksville, OH 44141. We should be back at The Chalet at 4:00 p.m. or so.
