Backpack Camp Information

Backpack Camp is scheduled for the weekend of October 12-13. Please make sure to sign up on TroopWebHost by Sunday, October 6th for the appropriate trek. For this camp, we split in to two different groups, based on grade. Scouts in 6th and 7th grade will be traveling to Mohican State Park, to participate in the Mohican Trek. Their trip departs Saturday morning, October 12th. Scouts in 8th grade and higher will also be departing Saturday morning, and will be traveling to West Branch State Park in Ravenna. Both crews will be returning to Chapman on Sunday, October 13th. Remember, each scout is responsible for bringing his own food to this camp. Please read below for more specifics on the two treks.

Mohican Trek (6th and 7th Grade Scouts)
Who Goes: All 1st and 2nd Year Scouts
When: Meet at Chapman, Saturday October 12th at 7:30 AM.
Trek Location: Mohican State Park, 3116 OH-3, Loudonville, OH 44842
Camp Location: Hemlock Grove Class B campsites
Return: Sunday October 13th at approximately 12:00 PM
Food: Scouts bring 1 sack lunch, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast, plus 1 gallon jug of water and trail snacks.
Cost: $15 with $5 spending money in case driver wants to stop at McDonalds just outside camp Sunday morning on the drive home.

Advanced Crew Trek (8th grade and higher Scouts)
Who Goes: All Scouts in 8th grade or higher
When: Meet at Chapman, Saturday October 12th at 7:30 AM.
Trek Location: West Branch State Park, 5708 Esworthy Rd., Ravenna, OH 44266
Camp Location: West Branch State Park Campground
Return: Sunday October 13th at approximately 12:00 PM
Food: backpacking-food-suggestions. Scouts bring 1 sack lunch, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, and trail snacks.
Cost: $15 with $5-$10 spending money in case driver wants to stop somewhere for lunch on the drive home.

The Advanced Crew will be hiking about 12 miles in total over the two days, and will be using the trails in the western and central parts of the park.
