The Strongsville Rotary Kids Fest and Duck Race will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at the Chalet in the Metroparks. There are several opportunities to help and earn service hours as part of this event. This is one of our biggest service projects of the year, so we need a lot of volunteers.
Please sign up for the following options on TroopWebHost.
Rope Bridge Set-up:
-6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 1st
On the evening before the event, we are looking for some volunteers to assist in setting up the rope bridge. Please meet us in the Chalet Parking lot, and dress for the weather.
Rope Bridge and Troop Table:
-10:00 – 4:30 (2-hour Shifts Available)
As part of the Kids Fest, the troop has an informational table, and we set up our rope bridge. We need scout and adult volunteers to assist kids across the rope bridge, and provide information about the troop to visitors to our table. Scouts should dress in their Class A uniform, and bring a water bottle. If you are signed up for a shift during lunch time, please bring a lunch as well. Don’t forget to prepare for the weather (i.e. sunscreen if it’s sunny, a rain jacket if there is a chance of rain). Volunteers should be dropped off and picked up at the entrance to the Chalet, on Valley Parkway. Our table is located in the parking lot, near the building.
Parking Assistants:
-9:00 – Noon (1.5-hour Shifts Available)
-The Rotary has requested youth and adult volunteers to help direct cars at the parking lot. The parking area is located at the RTA Park and Ride on Pearl Road by the entrance to the turnpike (just north of Valley Parkway). 4 older youth (high school age) and 2 adults are needed for each shift, and volunteers should dress in their troop t-shirt, and bring a water bottle.
Duck Chasers:
-2:00 – 4:00
This fun job gives scout volunteers the opportunity to get in the water with the rubber ducks as part of the actual duck race! 4 scouts are needed to help release the ducks at the start of the race, and then follow them down the river, making sure none get stuck or trapped along the river bank. Please dress in a swimsuit and t-shirt, and footwear that can get wet (barefoot is not an option). Don’t forget to bring a towel!
Scouts and Adults are allowed and encouraged to sign up for multiple shifts/jobs. Just make sure that you don’t sign up for any overlapping shifts. This is a fun event with a lot of great opportunities to help our sponsoring organization, and demonstrate to the public how awesome the scouting program is!
