Father & Son Camp – March 10th-12th

This month’s camp is Father & Son Camp, scheduled for the weekend of March 10-12. It’s been a Troop 701 tradition for over 30 years. We hold Father & Son Camp in March because it is designed to be the first camping experience for our new scouts and families, and it’s a great reunion camp for everyone in the troop.

WHEN: March 10th through 12th.
WHERE: Camp Miakonda, located in Sylvania, Ohio
WHO ATTENDS: Scouts and their Fathers. Important! While we call it Father & Son Camp, Scouts are still welcome and encouraged to attend even if their father can’t tag along; or, they can certainly take an uncle, grandpa or another relative. We don’t want a Scout to miss camp just because his dad cannot attend.
COST: $40 per camper. This covers cabin fees and a full weekend of dining hall services.
SIGNUP: Signup now through TroopWebHost. It is important that both Scouts and adults sign up on TroopWebHost, so that we can provide the most accurate attendance numbers to the camp.
TRANSPORTATION: Scouts meet at the camp in Sylvania on Friday evening. If your Scout is attending without an adult and needs transportation to Toledo, please let Scoutmaster Wes Kent know, and we can try to coordinate a ride. If you have already arranged transportation for your Scout attending without an adult, please note that in the comments on the sign-up on TroopWebHost so that we know that he is taken care of.

As many of you know, the BSA has very important youth protection policies in place to keep all of its members (youth and adult) safe, and those policies are of utmost importance to us in Troop 701 as well. While it is not a requirement to attend camp, we highly encourage any adult who will be joining us for the weekend to take the BSA’s online Youth Protection training course. This can be accomplished by going to the BSA’s my.scouting.org website, and creating an account. Additional info on how to access and complete the training can be found at the following link:

Once completed, please consider emailing a copy of your training certificate to our troop email at troop701bsa@gmail.com.

If you have any questions about YPT, please reach out to either Scoutmaster Wes Kent or Committee Chair Dan Hughes.

We will have more detailed information about camp in next week’s Message of the Week, but please sign up if you are planning to go, so that we can get a better handle on our food numbers. If you are planning to arrive to camp late, or depart early, please indicate that in the Comment section of your TroopWebHost sign up. Thanks for your cooperation, and we can’t wait to see all of you at camp!
