This month’s camp is Father & Son Camp, scheduled for the weekend of March 13-15. It’s been a Troop 701 tradition for over 40 years. We hold Father & Son Camp in March because it is designed to be the first camping experience for our new Scouts and families, and it’s a great reunion camp for everyone in the troop. This year’s camp theme is “Murica” and our youth leaders have planned a bunch of fun patrol-based activities and competitions! The camp will be held at Camp Butler, in Peninsula, OH
Per Scouting America policy, only those adults officially registered with Scouting America are allowed to camp overnight with Scouts BSA troops. Therefore, we are inviting any interested fathers/parents to join us at camp for the day on Saturday. We are asking that they arrive at 9:00 AM, and they are welcome to stay at camp until the conclusion of our Saturday evening program, probably around 9:00 PM or so.
For those parents who are registered with Scouting America AND Troop 701, you are welcome to join us for the overnight portions of camp.
Important! While we call it Father & Son Camp, Scouts are still welcome and encouraged to attend even if their father can’t join us for Saturday; or, they can certainly invite an uncle, grandpa or another relative. We don’t want a Scout to miss camp just because his dad cannot participate.
The cost for the camp will be $35 for Scouts and adults who are camping for the weekend. For those adults who are attending during the day on Saturday, the cost will be $10, which includes lunch and dinner.
SIGNUP: Signup now through TroopWebHost. It is important that both Scouts and adults sign up on TroopWebHost, so that we have the most accurate attendance numbers for meal planning. For the adults, please indicate in the comment field of your signup whether you will be joining us for the day or if you will be staying overnight (registered adults only). Also, if a Scout will be coming out to camp late or leaving camp early, please note that on your signup as well.
TRANSPORTATION: We will be meeting for camp at Chapman Elementary School (13883 Drake Road, Strongsville, 44136) at 6:45 PM on Friday, March 13th. We will be returning to Chapman at 10:30 AM on Sunday morning. If any parents are available to assist with driving to or from camp, please sign up on either the Friday or Sunday driver sign-ups on TroopWebHost, and indicate the number of seat belts you have for Scouts and if you have room for gear.
We will have more detailed information about camp in next week’s Message of the Week, but please sign up if you are planning to go, so that we can get a better handle on our food numbers. Thanks for your cooperation!
P.S.: Our camp in April is Mother & Son Camp, scheduled for the weekend of April 17-19!
