Upcoming Dates – February, NYLT, PLC Conference and Philmont!

Troop 701 key upcoming dates:

February 9, 2016 – Annual Parent Meeting.  This is a must attend for all parents.  Scoutmaster Tirey will provide his yearly update on the status of the troop and share important information for new parents.

February 29, 2016 – For scouts 1st class and above who are working on their Citizenship in the Community merit badge,  the annual Chili Open volunteer event will be Saturday, February 27th from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.  This is an ideal event to give back to your community while meeting the requirements for the Citizenship in the Community merit badge.  Volunteer spaces at this event are limited,  a scout must seek and receive verbal permission to sign up from his adult advisor or merit badge counselor.  The online registration page is forthcoming.

And because good planning makes for happy campers, here are some very important events on our horizon that we can now share…

June 12-18, 2016 and  July 24-30, 2016 –  The NYLT course at Beaumont Scout Reservation will be offered twice this Summer.  More information  is forthcoming, but use the dates now to help you plan your Summer.

July 10-16, 2016 – A friendly reminder for the week of summer camp at Heritage Scout Reservation.

August 12-14, 2016 –  PLC Annual Planning Conference at Hidden Hollow.  We will be returning to a PLC Planning Camp format where scouts elected to the Patrol Leaders Council will meet at this camp to plan out their year.   Please keep this very important date open on your calendar if you or your scout intends to run for a position on the PLC.  Since this is a planning camp, we need to stress that it is absolutely mandatory that the positions of Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol leader attend this event. Other positions on the PLC required to be at this camp are Asst. Patrol Leader, Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

June 15-29 2017 – Philmont Trek.  We are excited to announce the approximate dates of the 2017 Philmont Trek!  Plenty more information about this trek will be shared as we solidifying our planning  but as you can see, this is a big trip at two weeks long.  Our Philmont Trek will take place in June 2017 with our annual July 2017 Summer Camp to follow.  For Scouts who meet rank and training requirements, high adventure trips are always considered elective programming on top of our regular scout year programming.  This means that Scouts intending to go on the Philmont Trek must attend Summer Camp the following month.   We realize this makes for a very busy and expensive 2017 Summer with three weeks of camping.  This is why we are provoding you with as much notice as possible.  Please add the Philmont dates to your calendar now to help you plan a very busy 2017 Summer.  We do not yet know our Summer Camp 2017  camping dates, but an approximate timeframe is the 2nd week in July.
