Backpack Camp – October 11-13

Our monthly campout for October is our yearly backpacking treks. Backpacking is a fun and enjoyable experience that anyone can do, even if you have never backpacked before! We will be going over important information and tips about backpacking in the weeks leading up to camp. Our youth and adult leaders are here to help everyone best prepare for camp so that they will have a successful, safe, and fun trip! We really encourage as many of our Scouts as possible to join us for backpacking, as it’s a great way to learn some important skills and prepare for future high adventure opportunities.

Sign-ups are available on TroopWebHost. For this camp, we split up into two different crews based on age:

Our Beginner Crew (6th & 7th graders) will be meeting on Saturday morning, October 12th, to hike some of the awesome trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. They will begin their hike from Camp Butler in Peninsula, hook up with the trails in the National Park, and then end their hike at Camp Manatoc, where they will spend the night. This is a great opportunity for our younger Scouts to have a positive and fun backpacking experience. Please read the information in the following link for additional information on our Beginner Trek, why we structure it the way we do, and the importance of encouraging your Scout to participate:

Beginner Trek – Mile 1

Our Advanced Crew (8th-12th graders) will be leaving on Friday, October 11th, traveling to West Branch State Park, in Ravenna, for their backpacking trek.

For our Advanced Crew participants, if you are not able to join us on Friday due to other commitments, but would still like to participate in camp, you can meet up with the Advanced Crew on Saturday morning. Just make sure to note that in the comment field. If there are multiple Scouts who would like to arrive on Saturday morning, we may be able to set up a carpool.

Remember, Scouts are responsible for bringing their own food for the weekend. If a Scout needs to borrow a backpack, or other gear, we will have that available as well. We will be sharing more details about camp over the next couple of weeks, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
