One of our Scouts, Caleb S., has planned out a hiking and service activity at Hinckley Lake on Saturday, July 27th. This is a great opportunity for our Scouts to earn some hiking miles and service hours, while helping Caleb work towards his National Medal for Outdoor Achievement. The hiking miles will count toward Boot Club awards, and the service hours will count towards the troop Community Service Award. In order to earn that award, a troop member must participate in at least four service projects totaling at least 12 hours of service over the course of a Scouting year (September 1st to August 31st).
Here are some details about the event from Caleb: Hey everyone, we will be doing a hike around Hinckley Lake on July 27th from 9:00 AM until Noon. We will be hiking for three hours with no set mileage, and we will be doing a service aspect of picking up trash along the way. We will meet in the parking lot at Hinckley Lake near the boathouse (1 Metropolitan Park W, Hinckley, OH 44233). Dress for the weather, and bring a day pack with gloves to pick up the trash, a few plastic grocery bags, rain gear, and two bottles of water.
Participants can be picked up at the boathouse at noon. Please sign up on TroopWebHost if you are planning to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Caleb. He is also planning a fishing event for sometime in August, which he will be sharing more info about soon. Thanks so much for your participation!
