Our first hike of the 2020-21 Hiking merit badge series will be this Saturday, September 26th. We are hiking 10 miles in the Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. Our route will take us along wooded and open trails, over creek crossings, and near Chippewa Creek and the Cuyahoga River. We will hike a few short stretches of the Buckeye Trail. The terrain won’t be too tough, but the distance will test your body and your physical conditioning.
The crew is meeting in the parking lot of the Brecksville Nature Center (9000 Chippewa Creek Drive Brecksville, OH 44141) at 9:00 AM. Please be prompt! We are also asking that you please sign up on TroopWebHost, so we know who is planning to attend. Our goal is to finish the hike, and be back at the Nature Center parking lot, around 3:00 PM. You can find a copy of the trail map using the following link:

All Scouts in Troop 701 are welcome to participate in the hike. However, please keep in mind that hikes of this length demand endurance and physical fitness. Additionally, Scouts participating in the 2021 Philmont trek are required to hike at least 50 miles with the merit badge group, so here is your first opportunity to start logging those miles!
Remember to carry a full daypack with two quarts of water, trail snacks and a lunch, rain gear, spare socks, and other essentials. Please wear sturdy hiking footwear and socks as well. Also, everyone joining us must wear a mask or face covering during the hike.
As of September 20th, the weather forecast for Saturday predicts sunny skies with temperatures in the 60’s in the morning, rising into the upper 70’s by the afternoon. We hope you are able to join us for what looks like a beautiful day for a hike!
