This Memorial Day, as our country remembers and honors persons who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, please join Troop 701 in the following important service opportunities to honor those who have sacrificed for us and our country.
Saturday, May 25: Kiwanis Flag Raising and Strongsville Cemetery Flags
Strongsville Town Square and Strongsville Cemetery
Please arrive at 9 AM on the Town Square. We will assist the Kiwanis Club with the setup of all of the American Flags on the square. From there, we will walk over to the Strongsville Cemetery and place American Flags on the graves of local veterans. The flags are donated by the Strongsville VFW.
We ask that the entire troop is present for this service project. For first-year scouts, please attend, it’s a fun and meaningful event, and it’s your first step towards the Troop 701 Service Award. First year scouts have the honor of placing flags in the pioneer section of the cemetery, which can be seen from Pearl Road.
Here are some things to remember:
-Dress in Class-B Uniform. Class B is Troop 701 T-Shirt AND BSA shorts or pants. If wearing shorts, remember to wear BSA socks. Do not wear non-BSA shorts or pants.
-Bring a filled water bottle.
-Pay attention to the weather and bring a rain jacket if needed.
-The service project will last approximately 2-3 hours.
-Please sign-up on TroopWebHost.
Monday, May 27: Memorial Day service project at Lakeview Cemetery
Located at: 12316 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland, Ohio 44106.
We are in need of at least ten scouts to assist passing out programs and helping elderly to their seats at the annual Memorial Day service at Lakeview Cemetery. Programs will be passed out from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will last from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 12:00 p.m. A troop picture will be taken at the conclusion of the ceremony. We ask everyone to meet in front of president Garfield’s Monument at 9:30 a.m.
Please remember to bring water bottles as we will likely be standing in the sun for the entire service. Class A uniform (khaki Scout shirt, green scout pants or shorts, but no neckerchief or sash) is required. Parents and other family members may bring a folding chair. Please register on TroopWebHost, and if you have any questions, please talk to Rich Noga.
Thank you for your participation in these important service projects!
