Outdoor Advancement Day – Saturday, September 16th

An Outdoor Advancement Day will be held on Saturday, September 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Royalview Picnic Area in Strongsville. Royalview is located in the Metroparks along Valley Parkway, between Royalton Road and W. 130th Street. With so many Troop 701 scouts seeking Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class- this is a great opportunity! In addition to scouts wanting to work on rank advancements, we also need some older scout volunteers to assist with teaching and testing. Please sign up on TroopWebHost if you are planning to attend, as it will help us to better prepare.

Come out for the day or just a few hours. This workshop provides the opportunity for scouts to learn or be tested on various rank requirements of their choice. There are many requirements that take quite a bit of time to get signed off, and there’s not always time at campouts to facilitate this. Two minute fire, orienteering, identifying plants and wildlife, and useful camp gadgets are a few examples.

This advancement workshop is also a good time to work on the cooking requirements for Second Class (requirement 2e) and First Class (requirements 2a-e). The troop will provide the stove, but the scout will be responsible for bringing the food, and any necessary cooking gear/utensils. Please refer to the following document for more information:

The troop will also have rope, maps/compasses, and matches available; however, scouts can certainly bring their own gear.

While this advancement workshop does provide a great opportunity to work on outdoor advancements, a scout is welcome to come prepared to work on any rank advancement, including first aid, principles of Leave No Trace, etc.

Remember, no matter what rank you are, you can still learn and be tested on requirements for any rank.

Also, if you just want to come and discuss what your current advancement status is, and develop some goals and plans for rank advancement, we’d be happy to sit down and work with you on that as well.

Important: It’s up to the scout to come prepared with his advancement goal. If you take the time beforehand to review some requirements, you will have a more successful advancement experience!

To attend you will need to:

  1. Study and come PREPARED with advancement skill(s) to be tested on.
  2. Bring a rain jacket, a water bottle, and a sack lunch or snacks.
  3. Bring scout handbook and green book or TIP book.
  4. Dress for the weather.
